Stories and picturebook read-alouds in primary English education

Dear teachers,

Welcome to our study on storytelling and picturebook read-alouds in primary English education. If you teach English to students aged from 5 to 12 years old, your willingness to contribute to the study will be greatly appreciated.

We are interested in understanding your attitudes, experiences, perceived confidence and constraints related to storytelling and picturebook read-alouds in the classroom. To gather this information, we have created this questionnaire. The results will be used to support teachers in developing and conducting story-based lessons around picturebook read-alouds.

The survey has been approved by the NOVA FCSH Ethics Committee, and respects the ethical principles associated with data processing, so that individual responses are confidential and anonymous. The responses will be used for the purpose of understanding your attitudes, experiences, perceived confidence and constraints related to bringing picturebooks and picturebook read-alouds into the primary EFL classroom. The results will also be disseminated at scientific and professional events and in specialized publications.

In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation, the personal data collected will be those strictly necessary for aforementioned reasons. They will be kept separately on a secure medium, used exclusively for this purpose, and will not be transferred to third parties. The processing and presentation of results will be carried out by aggregating response categories which is why we guarantee the impossibility of identifying individual respondents. Additionally, any response that may directly identify individuals will be removed.

It is estimated that completing the questionnaire will take between 15 and 20 minutes. Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary and you can stop at any time, for any reason, without any consequences. After completing the questionnaire, you may request consultation, rectification or removal of your data at any time by contacting Sandie Mourão (Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal) or Mateja Dagarin Fojkar (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) who are responsible for data processing, without prejudice to the results of data processing that have already been carried out on the date of the request.

By continuing to the questionnaire, you will automatically agree to our Privacy Policy, which complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

If you have any questions or would like more information about the study, feel free to contact us at sandramourao@fcsh.unl.pt or Mateja.Dagarin@pef.uni-lj.si. Your feedback is also welcome.

The survey will close on 1 May 2025.

Thank you for your participation.

Sandie Mourão and Mateja Dagarin Fojkar
